Apr. 6th, 2002 07:54 pmHeh. As spring cleaning nibbles at the corners of my brain, I slowly weed through my comics. Goodbye Jackie, I hardly knew you. The only two titles that I'm following with anything like consistency these days are Promethea and Kabuki, though I did buy a little stack of Aria yesterday (it looks to be a new story line, haven't peeked at them yet but I hope that Anceleto is still onboard).
So, okay. They're both female protagonist driven (though created by men), with smart (possibly pretentious) stuff happening in the background. Themes of self-discovery abound. As do ambiguous sexual elements.
Kabuki seems almost asexual and who can blame her considering the family history, but then comes Akemi and there might even be a kiss in there.
Promethea has Sophie (I wouldn't say that the Promethea figure herself has much in the way of a sexuality, though that could be again a reflection of Sophie herself), whose best friend Stacia teases her about being a lesbian because she doesn't date (though said best friend was last seen kissing a former Promethea who is currently sharing her body... so).
Other things I'm keeping so far.
The original Aria run, even if the story was rushed and confusing, the art is still beautiful and different enough to warrant hanging on to.
Blade of the Immortal. Love the simple art and the subtleness of the people against the brutal story line. Though it doesn't seem to be going anywhere definite, so it's v. hard to keep up.
Fathom. 'Cause heh, pretty. And the last issue I have, #11 I think, has a cool deep sea creatures thing going on, very much hoping he'll do more with this. And the teaser in that one says something about another race of whatever Aspen is with dark spiny acutrements. Mmm.
Some random Adam Warren Gen13s. Funny, funny man.
Certain things I don't bother with individual issues for. Sandman. The Authority. Love Warren Ellis, why did he leave (sad, sad)? Love it for his writing, clean and mean, and Apollo and the Midnighter. Basically Batman and a fun/happy Superman. Who sleep together. And are cooler then the real things.
