It's a little E-vil
Apr. 22nd, 2002 03:36 pmHeh heh heh. Warlands is such a Lodoss clone. I'd forgotten how much so.
The penciller had improved since Dark Minds and the art is much more consistent.
But still, it's way too much of a clone and that's made the world building extremely lazy. Not only can you almost match the main 'team' up character for character with the Lodoss group (except the possible Ashram has that stupid bulgy jaw-teeth thing that some anime/manga characters inexplicably have, I don't know that I've ever seen real people like that), but the setting itself is way too familiar.
And also, the human country is called 'Warlands'? Wtf? You know. You name your country something with the word war in it and you're just asking for problems.
Not to mention the word bits. Words are important in comics, as important as the pictures and are not just there to tell you the names of things. People should remember this.
Which really, makes it boring. The only thing that really caught my attention was the fractious vampire clans. But heh, I've got a stake in some of those myself and shamelessly, I think ours are much better.
It just makes me want to someday do a Terra Nova arc set in the distant future, where the vampires have clearly developed their own cultures and left behind most of the trappings of humanity. Strange, incestuous rotting cultures, slowly sinking beneath, as Venice is (this is my metaphor and mental image of the day). Muahahaha. Haha. Ha.
Ahem. Yes. So no more Warlands either.
