Finally watched all of RotK:EE (yes, don't ask, there was maybe a thing). Leaving last two disks for the weekend as otherwise I'll never get anything done.

Mostly what I thought about during the watch (other than my vast vast amounts of Eowyn love. And Theoden! He's probably risen to being my second favorite) was the parallels between the Denethor-Faramir-Pippin thing and the Theoden-Eowyn-Merry thing.

1. Basically anything Eowyn-Theoden (it hit all of my paren-child buttons, so no its apparently not just mother-daughter stuff that gets to me).
2. Theoden dying.
3. Eomer finding Eowyn.
4. Pippin finding Merry.
5. Riders of Rohan appearing, the death chant, basically all of that bit. (Rohan stuff in general pretty much always works for me)
6. Sam crying when Frodo tells him to go home.
7. Frodo's end of all things bit.
8. The signals being lit (yeah, I dunno, but it doesn't seem to just be me either so).

(intermission: There seems to be opera coming from the heater? Its being piped through the vents)

And now I'm distracted and must go watch Project Runway (Yes, apparently I cannot resist reality shows that either involve history or high fashion. Who knows!).

After that, work! At least I can knit during this (week ago was my dad's birthday and no scarf finished yet, eep!)

Among other things, those signals being lit always get me weepy. It's not just you.

I'm not sure why exactly, I think thats why it seems so weird. Its the brave but hopeful music and the people working together and the scenery and I dunno, and then tears.
Listening to the cast commentary while I knit, best parts are Theodens inner monologue while they leave Rohan and also I love that Bernard Hill was like obsessed with thinking through the idea of the people living in the mountains to light the signal fires. John Noble is scary, but a different scary from Denethor because he's all quiet and stuff.

I have a pretty good idea of why it is so for me. It is the use of technology, made possible by planning, foresight, and industry, to overcome evil. I've always found it overwhelming.

Yes, I cried when all the lights went green in _Hackers_. I was 13, ok?
